Early Life
Tanikella Bharani’s ancestors include poets and literary leaders from Telugu literature. His grand uncles were DiwakarlaVenkatavadhani and Viswanatha Satyanarayana. His grand-uncle was Divakarla Tirupati Sastry, a member of the Telugu poet duo Tirupati Venkata Kavulu.

He was born into a family of Telugu Brahmins. He speaks Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi fluently and can converse in English.
He is a devout Hindu who sings devotional songs in favor of Sri Shiva and Devi Parvati and encourages his fellow Hindus to not only study but also do what the Bhagwat Gita teaches. Career
In the mid-1970s, Bharani performed in theatre productions and it was around this period that he met Rallapalli, a Tollywood actor. Bharani began composing short dialogues and stage scenes. He went on to get a diploma in Theatre Arts later on. He moved to Chennai on Rallapalli’s advice.

He began his career as a dialogue writer for KanchuKavachum in 1984 and has since written dialogue for several films, including Ladies Tailor (1986), Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Recording Dance Troup (1987), ChettuKinda Pleader (1989), Swara Kalpana (1989), Shiva (1989), and Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi (2004). He also wrote and sang the GundammagaariManavadu lyrics (BhaleBhaletiMandu).
He has appeared in over 750 films including Ladies Tailor (1885) and Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Recording Dance Troupe (1987), both of which he played Dora Babu. In 1989, he acted alongside Nagarjuna in Ram Gopal’s Varma’s hit film Shiva. With the release of Shiva, he gained a lot of attention, and his character Nanaji impressed the Telugu public.
In 1999, he also starred in the Hindi comedy film Main TerePyar Mein Pagal. In Samudram, his tremendous antagonism earned him the Nandi Award for Best Villain. He began to play more mature characters after 2000. Afterward, he did various super hit movies including Manmadhudu (2002), OkarikiOkaru (2003), Samba (2004), Malliswari, Godavari (2006), and Happy (2006).
He also directed a Telugu Drama film in 2012 named Mithunam starring S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and Lakshmi. For this movie, he won the Cinema Award Special Jury Award for Best Direction.

He is also fond of devotional songs and he wrote a total of seven songs including “Nee Lona ShivuduGaludu, Na Lona ShivuduGaladu” literally translating as “Lord Shiva in you and Lord Shiva in me can dominate the Universe”. He also sang the title song for his films NalonaSivuduGaladu and ShahabashRaaShankara.

In 1988, he married Durga Bhavani. He lives in Hyderabad’s Yousufguda neighborhood. Teja and Soundarya Lahari are the couple’s two children. His son Teja also is a part of the film industry who made his acting debut in the movie Mr. Lavangam (2012).
